Day 2C of the 2016 WSOP Main Event is now in the bag with 1,416 players having survived from a starting field of 3,252 players. In total, this year’s Main Event attracted 6,737 hopefuls, and with all Day 2’s having been completed, just 2,176 players still remain in contention, who will now return to the action on Thursday hoping to take a step closer towards one of the event’s 1,011 paid money spots, as well as its ultimate top prize of $8 million.
Losers
Amongst the 1,836 players exiting the Main Event on Day 2C was a number of high-profile pros, headed by Phil Ivey, Fedor Holz, and Daniel Negreanu, who later tweeted:
“Busted the main event with 99 vs AQ. Stretched my chips as long as I could. Two days without cooperation from the deck and had to flip.”
Also busting their stacks on Day 2C was former Main Event champions Joe Hachem, Chris Moneymaker, Martin Jacobson, and Joe Cada. They were then joined on the rail by Ari Engel, Kathy Liebert, Allen Cunningham, Andre Akkari, Vanessa Rousso, John Juanda, Dan Smith, Byron Kaverman, Gavin Smith, Jason Koon, Cate Hall, Barry Greenstein, Erik Seidel, Scotty Nguyen, Loni Harwood, Daniel Alaei, Vitaly Lunkin, Jeff Madsen, Christian Harder, Mike Leah, Marvin Rettenmaier, and George Danzer.
Winners
The first and third highest chip counts at the end of day belonged to Brazilian players Gustavo Lopes (photo) on a 630,700 stack, and Rafael Moraes (571,900), with Italy’s Raffaele Castro (587,000) lying in second spot. The most notable player in the top 10, however, is Michael Mizrachi with 549,400 in chips.
